F. Peart & Co helps the new Hartlepool MS Support Group reach out to local community

June 2012

Members of the New Hartlepool MS Support group, which supports people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, have been celebrating a recent donation from local heating oil and fuel distributor, F. Peart & Co, which has helped fund a new support centre in the area.

The Hartlepool MS drop-in centre, based at the Owton Rossmere Resource Centre, Wynyard Road, Hartlepool, opened its doors on Monday 14th May 2012 and provides support and advice for local people suffering from the condition.

The £300 donation from F. Peart & Co, suppliers of domestic and commercial oil in Hartlepool and the surrounding areas, will provide financial support for the centre and in particular, contribute to the costs of a complimentary therapist and a counsellor for MS sufferers and anyone close to them that is affected by their condition.

The Hartlepool MS drop-in centre runs every Monday from 11am-3pm and along with emotional support, will also offer advice on exercises to help improve some of the symptoms of MS, including fatigue, tremors, muscle stiffness and spasms. For those who do not have access to a computer or the internet at home, the centre is also fully equipped with computers, providing members with a chance to explore and research their condition further via the web.

The donation was made as part of F. Peart & Co’s charitable bursary scheme, after Graham Collinson, a committee member and spearhead of the charity, contacted the company. As part of F. Peart & Co’s commitment to the local community, the scheme aims to support worthwhile causes in the North East and provide an extra helping hand to those in need.

Speaking of the donation, Graham commented: “The New Hartlepool MS Support Group is a small support group which helps people come to terms with this life changing and debilitating condition, whether they are newly diagnosed or have been living with MS for a long time.

“The group is constantly growing, mainly with newly diagnosed sufferers, so we decided to form a drop-in centre in order to enhance the social lives and wellbeing of those living with MS in the local area.

“We are so grateful to F. Peart & Co for its very generous donation, we were very happy when we heard that we’d been accepted into the bursary scheme. We can’t wait to start reaching out to people who really need support and care in Hartlepool.”

Laura Jackson, business manager at F. Peart & Co, said: “The New Hartlepool MS Support Group is a brilliant charity and we couldn’t be more pleased that they are using the bursary money to help fund the new drop-in centre. It is our hope that people with MS in the local area will use the centre as a means of socialising with like-minded people, talking through their problems, while at the same time, receiving any help that they require.

“The bursary scheme is our way of extending our support to everyone in the area and keeping in touch with the communities we are a part of and work hard for.”

As a loyal supplier to the region, providing heating oil and diesel to rural and remote communities, F. Peart & Co launched the charitable bursary scheme in November 2011 to support local community groups, charities and sports teams who need a helping hand.
